Rodney is a native of Vienna, Georgia and makes his home there with his wife Angie, his daughter Rachel and son Landon. Rodney has been a fan of Southern Gospel music most of his life. His favorite Southern Gospel group has always been “The Inspirations” from Bryson City North Carolina. In fact, as a teenager Rodney learned to hear and sing parts by listening to “The Inspirations” on tape and radio.
Rodney learned how to play bass guitar with a local SG group in Vienna known as “The Happy Singers”. Later he went on to play for a group called “The Gospel Heirs” from Americus GA. Finally Rodney felt the desire to start singing bass and the opportunity presented itself with a young talented trio from Cordele GA. called “Glory Bound”. After about 1½ years, the group disbanded because of members moving, family priorities and jobs.
Rodney was able to continue singing by joining up with Rev. Royce and Marcene Freeman, who are the parents of the “Glory Bound” members. Well known in the area, Rev. Royce and Marcene called themselves the “Freeman Family”. Rodney sang with “The Freeman Family” for a while and was blessed to snag a smooth baritone singer named Tony Brown. It was here that Rodney was able to refine his vocal abilities. They went on to sing for several years together. Rodney says; they were some of the best times in his life and the members of the Freeman Family are still close friends and will always be dear to his heart.
Finally Rodney had an opportunity to sing with an all male quartet named “Common Garments Quartet” in 1999 and that is where he is today. Now owner and manager of the group, Rodney is fulfilling his dream of singing with a top quality Southern Gospel Quartet which includes three other very talented men of whom he is proud to call his friends.
